This will mostly act as a way for me to showcase all types of music which sadly isn't on modern Streaming Services (at the time of writing) or rather not the mainstream ones, i. e. Spotify. Probably focused on Japanese, Chinese albums and soundtracks I stumbled upon someday. Hope you enjoy them at least :D

Music of the week 3: October 2024 2nd week

After some consideration I now settled on showcasing the Vocaloid/Utau Compilation Schéma -共鳴- just before this week ends, released for the Booth Vocakore-kai Festival and released on the titular platform in summer 2020 on the storefront of contributor bal.

I won't go into detail surrounding all the contributors but I'll note that popular producers like Iyowa and Sheeno Mirin have songs on here which a nice listen and fit the overall atmosphere of the record pretty well. The album being surprisingly cohesive as you can convince yourself by listening to its trailer. My favourite on here would probably be "0" by A_II, an Utau track featuring Gekiyaku and a more abrasive song compared to its contemporaries probably due to A_II's style. I'll also add that the compilation has a lof of range since there are also some more electronic cuts on here but I guess that should be everything for now, enjoy listening to it sometime! :)

Music of the week 2: October 2024 1st week

Since the week I set out to release this in has already passed, I'll just start showcasing two albums this week ^^ The first one being "mahziel vocaloid collection vol. 1." by the titular mahziel released in April 2020.

As almost anyone should be familiar with Hatsune Miku at this point I'll just shift focus over mahziel, a person which does not seem to have much information available about them. They do have a Soundcloud account and live in Shiga prefecture but this should be everything I could gather. This probably will be a trend in this series going forward but an artist's privacy should probably be more than respected to begin with.

mahziel's style of music is electronical with some emotional and atmospheric touches lending well to the use of the dreamy Miku tuning showcased here. The Bandcamp tags don't really do this album/collection justice in my opinion, mostly because you can expect this to be closer in style to a Porter Robinson album most of the time than to any "melodic dubstep", "future bass" or "trap" recording, probably because he also seeks to create emotional electronic soundscapes. This however doesn't mean that you find won't influences of these genres on the tracks as evidenced by "Cry Out" or even the rhythmic patterns. The influences are there for sure but didn't define the work as a whole.

My favourite on here would be "supernova", a mostly atmospheric track released on YouTube with a nice illustration by fellow Utau/Vocaloid producer A_II, but the other ones are great too and the collection definitely is nice to listen to if you should ever drive around at night or just look at the night sky in general. The album really does feel as nocturnal as the cover and I do like nighttime :D I still couldn't figure out who illustrated the cover though :/

Music of the week 1: September 2024 4th week

To start things off, here is "Hitodenashitsuki" by Yotsuhaka. They are duo comprised of the composer Shi who also drew the cover illustration and is also active lately as a manga artist for the magazine Harta under the alias Togawa Yonan. The magazine is perhaps best known for the serialization of Dungeon Meshi by the way. Providing the vocals, there is Mi who also plays the violin on some tracks, however I do not know which and there doesn't seem to be much information available about her either.

My personal favorurites on the album would be tracks #4 "Hanesou" and #6 "Uji no waku hodo" but in general most tracks feature Mi's soft voice and a somewhat dark but still dreamy atmosphere (as do their other albums too), with a guitar centric sound well described by the bandcamp tags Math Rock and Shoegaze.

The isn't much for me left to say other than you may give it a listen, especially if you like the atmosphere provided by something like "The Girl from the Other Side" or just want something to listen to in autumn ^^
